Michael Obenieta writes poetry and prose in both Cebuano and English. In addition to having been a fellow for English poetry in the Dumaguete, UP and Iligan workshops, Myke has published at least 100 poems as well as feature articles in various international, national and local anthologies and magazines, including the Free Press, Graphic, Panorama, Inquirer, Home Life, Bisaya, Write.Hop: New Writers Speak Up and Mantala (National Commission for Culture and the Arts), Likhaan Best in Philippine Poetry and Fiction 1996 and 1997 (UP Press), Caracoa: Heroes and History Centennial Issue (Philippine Literary Arts Council), In Search of Heroes (Filipino Foundation, Inc.), The Poem and the World (Washington Press) and The Best of Youngblood (Anvil Publishing).
The most recent honors accorded to him are a place in the Bathalad Hall of Fame, for winning 1st Prize in Cebuano poetry five times in various competitions, and a writing grant for the NCCA-sponsored UBOD New Authors Series, for a book of Cebuano poems titled Iring-Iring Sa Tingbitay Sa Iro. He has been recognized as the Most Creative Editor in the 2005 Inhouse Awards of Sun Star Cebu, and for his work in the same publication has been nominated for Best in Column Writing in the Catholic Mass Media Awards of the same year. He is now president of Bathalan-ong Halad sa Dagang ( Bathalad ), a group of Cebuano writers in the Visayas and Mindanao, and is publisher of BISIBIS (Balak, Inigmat, Sugilanon, ug Inigat sa Bisdak), a quarterly Cebuano literary folio.
