Announcement of Winners: Ateneo Art Awards 2017

For the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art, three (3) winners were chosen by the jury from a shortlist of twelve (12). The winners are Cian Dayrit for his works in Exposition, Gale Encarnacion for her thesis exhibition titled Blow me, and Costantino Zicarelli for his solo show, Prelude to a Billion Years.

Another component of the winning the Fernando Zóbel Prizes is the chance to receive international residency grants. The recipients of these grants are chosen by Ateneo Art Gallery’s partner institutions. This year, we are pleased to announce that each winner received a residency grant:

  • Cian Dayrit – La Trobe Art Institute, Bendigo, Australia
  • Gale Encarnacion – Artesan Gallery + Studio, Singapore
  • Costantino Zicarelli – Liverpool Hope University – Creative Campus, Liverpool, UK.
Arianna Mercado

For the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism, two (2) winners were selected from a shortlist of six (6). Presented the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize – The Philippine Star, Arianna Mercado is given a regular column to be published twice a month or 24 articles for a year in the publication’s Arts & Culture section. Her winning entry is titled Dalena’s Curtain Call.

Josephine V. Roque

The recipient of the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize – ArtAsiaPacific Magazine is Josephine V. Roque for her entry Transits of Meaning. She will be contributing a total of six articles to ArtAsiaPacific for one year.

Ateneo Art Awards 2017 is presented with Shangri-La Plaza, The Philippine Star, Kalaw-Ledesma Foundation, Inc., La Trobe Art Institute, Liverpool Hope University – Creative Campus, Artesan Gallery + Studio, ArtAsiaPacific Magazine, Metro Society and YStyle, with support from the Australian Embassy and Qantas..

The Ateneo Art Awards 2017 exhibition is located in Ateneo Art Gallery in Areté, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights Quezon City 1108. Works and entries of the winners and shortlisted artists and writers will be exhibited from 1 October to 2 December 2017.
