Aida F. Santos (a.k.a. Aida Santos-Maranan). She is a human rights advocate, writer, researcher, educator, trainer, and feminist. She has received literary awards from the Palanca, CCP and Free Press, and has been a writing Fellow for the UP Creative Writing Center. Aida has published three anthologies of award-winning poems, as well as a CD book entitled Pana-panahon: Isang Tanong, Isang Sagot at iba pang tula (launched September 2005), a 26-poem collection that was part of a series co-produced with Gray Matter Multi Media, Inc. and Akdang Bayan. She has published more than 100 articles, poems, books, monographs and opinion columns. She has also been involved in two video productions, one produced by BBC with Mowelfund called "Women of the Bases - Continuing Lives" as scriptwriter and member of the Philippine Women's Video Collective.
In October 2005, the Aida F. Santos Writing Workshop, aimed at mentoring women in writing and now on its sixth session, mapped another literary and cultural landscape in Aida's life. She has helped found several organizations, such as the Gender Resource Network (GRN), and served as a consultant, director, and member to various local and international projects. She is currently a Board Member of the Women's Development, Productivity Research & Advocacy Organization (WEDPRO), Inc., and a mover of Women Working Together to Stop Violence Against Women (WWTSVAW), a national campaign on violence against women launched by Amnesty International-Pilipinas. At present, Aida teaches women's studies in the master's program of St. Scholastica's College where she has served as coordinator of its precursor women's studies non-degree program.
