Karina Africa Bolasco

Karina Africa Bolasco is founder and publishing manager of Anvil Publishing, Inc., seven times cited Publisher of the Year by the Manila Critics Circle. Under her leadership, 112 Anvil titles have won National Book Awards. In 1995, she was given The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) award for Literacy and Book Publishing. She was the 2004 Fellow for the Asia Leadership Fellow Program of the Japan Foundation and International House of Japan. She also represented the Philippines in the US-State Department International Visitor Program of 2005. She was a former chair of the National Committee on Cultural Education of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) from 1995 to 2001 and a former governor of the National Book Development Board (NBDB). Her essays have been published in trade journals and her poetry has appeared inForbidden Fruit: Women Write the Erotic, Kung Ibig Mo: Love Poetry by Women,and Returning a Borrowed Tongue (Coffeehouse Press, USA, ed. by Nick Carbo). She has been in book publishing for twenty five years and has lectured extensively in book publishing conferences, seminars, and courses here and abroad. She is Vice President for External Affairs of the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), and Board Member of the Book Exporters Association of the Philippines (BEAP), the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), and the Writers Union of the Philippines.
