Dr. Ma. Zenaida B. French writes poetry, some of which have been published in journals and collections including Philippines Free Press , Literacy Focus, CCP'sAni , NCCA's Patubas ( L.Deriada, ed.), NCCA's Mantala , Home Life and Fern Garden ( M. Alunan, ed.).
Dr. French is a recipient of awards and grants including the Home Life National Poetry Contest (second prize, 1993 and first prize, 1998); second prize in the All-West Visayas Poetry Contest (English, 1994); honorable mention for "Inamorata", World Poetry Contest, California, USA, 1989; and finalist for "WomanScape" in the Philippine Free Press Literary Awards (Poetry in English), 1994. She was also cited in Isagani Cruz's "Critique-at-Large" column in Philippine Star for "Inamorata", "Womanscape", "To a Daughter" and "Makataong Pag-ibig."
She has also conducted, coordinated, facilitated and acted as resource person for seminars and workshops in performance poetry (Tanghal-Tula, 1998), theater, creative writing, film appreciation, literary criticism and art criticism.
Since June 2001, Dr. French is the Coordinator for Western Visayas of the National Committee for Literary Arts (NCLA) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
She conducts workshops and gives lecture-demonstrations on creative writing, particularly the writing of poetry, and the teaching of literature using contemporary strategies in the reading and teaching of literature.
