Naya S. Valdellon

Naya S. Valdellon graduated with a B.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2002 and an M.A. in English and Creative Writing from the University of Toronto in 2008. A fellow of the U.P and Dumaguete national writers' workshops, her poetry has won the 1st Maningning Miclat Award for Poetry in 2003, the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2004 and 2005, the Meritage Press Poetry Prize in 2002 and 2007, and the Hart House Poetry Prize in 2007. Her chapbook, The Reluctant Firewalker, was published by the NCCA in 2005 as part of its Ubod New Authors Series. Her work has been published in various magazines and anthologies, including The Hart House Review, Philippines Free Press, Sunday Inquirer Magazine, Likhaan, Heights, Tomas, Kritika Kultura, Caracoa, and One Hundred Love Poems. She has worked as a fashion magazine editorial assistant, a content writer for a website design company, an English literature and composition teacher, and a freelance copy editor.

She is currently based in Toronto, Canada, where she is a member of Diaspora Dialogues, craves kinilaw and sisig at odd hours of the night, and is preparing to survive the next harsh winter.
