Hildawa was an artist, architect, writer, cultural worker and poet. He served as the director of the visual, literary, and media arts department of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) until his untimely death.
He won in the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for his full-length Filipino play Macho Motel in 1997, and his Building a House and Other Poems in 2006. He was also a two-time recipient of the Philippine Free Press Literary Award for poetry; author of Regarding Space, published in 2005 by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts under the "Ubod" First Author Series, chapbooks which featured the best of unpublished young writers in the Philippines; and a featured artist in several one-man exhibits.
He was a recipient of the CCP Thirteen Artists Award, a British Council fellow for art and architecture, and a poetry fellow at the University of the Philippines ' National Writers' Workshop and Iligan National Writers' Workshop. He entered UP Diliman in 1979. His training was in architecture but was also known for his art and poetry production.
His blog is at www.lihawad.blogspot.com, which contains several articles and poems, some of them poetic reworkings of Juan Luna masterpieces. He passed away last 30 March, 2008. A mass and a tribute were held for him at the CCP Main Theater Lobby. He was born on Christmas day. Sid Gomez Hildawa was 45 years old.
