In celebration of the World Theater Day 2013, the National Committee on Dramatic Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) headed by Mr. Lutgardo Labad will spearhead simultaneous performances of different theatre organizations and performing troupes in various sites of the Philippines on March 27, 2013. At exactly 4:00 pm, 40 organizations will render simultaneously short play, skits, dances and songs in plazas, malls, inside and open venues.
The College of Arts and Communication of the University of the Philippines Baguio will hold the Talastasan Public Forum with the theme “taking the popular turn” as part of the CAC Summer Arts Program 2013. We're welcoming literary submissions from current MFA students and alumni of DLSU-Manila. Submissions crossing different genres such as poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, and everything in between will be considered for publication. As much as possible, no limits are imposed on the number of pages for each work or number of entries for each individual. Write Green: Premio Ambahan 2013 seeks to promote the writing of ambahan as a contemporary expression deep-rooted in our tradition. A short poetic form indigenous to the Hanunuo Mangyans of Mindoro, ambahan consists of seven-syllable lines, mono-rhyme scheme, and images illustrating people’s lives in relation to their natural habitat. Writing about Magarao always, Luis Cabalquinto, in a sense, really never left home. But if we reckon by geographical distance, then the poet has been away and will be home this March from the United States.
As with any homecoming, two feasts await Cabalquinto. On March 22, at 1pm, his book Tignarakol, will be launched by the Ateneo de Naga University Press. Venue of the launch is the Arrupe Convention of the Ateneo de Naga University. This is Cabalquinto’s first collection in Bikol and his seventh book.
