Virgin Labfest 12
Established in 2005, the Virgin Labfest is a laboratory festival of new plays by emerging and established Filipino playwrights and held annually at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The Virgin Labfest aims to provide Filipino playwrights a venue to present their unpublished, unstaged, untested and untried works to theatergoing public. The Virgin Labfest is a yearly project of the Manila-based playwrights group Writer's Bloc, Inc., acclaimed theater company Tanghalang Pilipino, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
The VIRGIN LABFEST YEAR 12 is now open for script submissions! The Virgin Labfest is an annual festival of unpublished, unstaged, untried and untested works for the theater held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This festival is a partnership project of the Writer’s Bloc, Inc., Tanghalang Pilipino, Inc. and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), through its Intertextual Division, celebrates the National Reading Month of November with Performatura Festival, Performing Literatures on November 6, 7 and 8.
Performatura Festival, the free three-day event in various venues of the Center, has over 200 local and international participating artists. The Department of Education (DepEd) declared November as the National Reading Month in 2011 to address the ten-point education agenda of the government, promoting a reading culture among learners.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) launched today Performatura 2015, Performing Literatures to be held on November 6, 7 and 8 in various venues of the Center to celebrate its 46th year. The three-day event is free or open to the public.
“Performatura 2015 forms part of the literary programs of the CCP spearheaded by the Intertextual Division,” CCP Vice President and Artistic Director Chris B. Millado said. “We have opened the event to the general public specifically for the young people to realize our vision of ‘Art matters to the life of every Filipino’,” he added.
It is a steampunk musical foregrounding the intellectual heroism of Apolinario Mabini, who in the second phase of Philippine revolution, displayed an uncommon vision, a warrior’s spirit, and a principled character, as he struggled against all odds to enjoin his countrymen to go beyond considerations of class, clan, economic gain and personal ambition, so they could think and act as citizens of one nation. In partnership with National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) to close the year-long celebration of the 150th birthday of Apolinario Mabini.

Participants learn fundamental skills and procedures used in managing the making of a film including crew structure and the collaborative responsibilities of crew members, legal issues regarding agreements, rights, copyright and trademark clearances, insurance, location permits, talent agreements, scheduling, budgeting, transportation, crew deals and supplier agreements. Particular attention will be put on professional practice concerning the structure of the workday, shooting hours, turnaround time and safety issues that are the mutual responsibility of the producer, director and assistant director (AD).

Film, television, and commercial director Jade Castro, one of the most prolific and creative directors in the industry, tries theater for the first time, as he directs this year for VIRGIN LABFEST, now on its 11th year.
"TALO ANG WALANG ALAM" is among the "fresh" one-act plays to be featured in VIRGIN LABFEST from June 24 to July 12 in Tanghalang Huseng Batute of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Award-winning filmmaker Alvin Yapan (of past Cinemalaya films "Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa", "Ang Panggagahaa Kay Fe", "Debosyon", etc) is a first-time, "virginal" director of the 11-year old Virgin Labfest, with Joe Mari Sanchez as the playwright.
